News

A Lac Courte Oreilles man was killed Wednesday, August 11 after being hit by a vehicle in Sawyer County.

46-year-old, Charles Denasha was hit by a vehicle driven by 52-year-old Domingo Aguilera at 5:34am. According to officials, Denasha was apparently lying face down on CTH E near Sweden's apartments, Town of Bass Lake. Sawyer County Sheriff's Deputies, Sawyer County Ambulance and LCO Fire Department personnel responded. Denasha was pronounced dead at the scene by the Sawyer County Coroner.

Officials say Aguilera was traveling north on CTH E north of Indian Lake Road. He said he didn't see Denasha in time to avoid hitting him. Denasha was lying in the northbound lane, near the center line, when he was struck.

The Sawyer County Sheriff's office is investigating the accident with help from the Wisconsin State Patrol. An autopsy has been performed, and according to authorities, Denasha's blood alcohol level is unknown at this time but there is evidence of alcohol in his system.
